Review and Giveaway: Puppy Cake Holiday Cookies

A few years ago we adopted a little dog who’d been found wandering in the desert. He is a small terrier mix with a big attitude.

We named him Augustus Caesar because he needed a grand name to match his superiority complex. We call him Gus for short.

Gus is my second child. He is never far from my side and fights with his sister, my 5 year old daughter, all the time.

Gus is a pampered pooch. I’ve been wanting to make some homemade doggy treats for him for a while but I kept putting it off. I didn’t have the right ingredients or I just didn’t have the time.

What I really wanted was a quick fix that was safe and healthy for my little GusGus. In comes Puppy Cake!

You may have seen them on the show Shark Tank. Puppy Cake makes cake, cookie and ice cream mixes that are safe for your dogs with all natural ingredients.

The wonderful folks at Puppy Cake sent us three different products to try and I’ll be sharing each of them with you in a three part review.

This review will focus on their Holiday Cookie Mix which retails for $6.99. This awesome little pouch contains the dry ingredients to make about 18 little bone shaped “cookies” that your dog will love.

They even include the cookie cutter in the pouch! All you need to do is add one egg, a table spoon of oil and a little bit of water. It can’t be any more simple.

I let my 5 year old do almost all of the work and she loved being able to make special treats for our Gus.

The resulting “cookies” are wheat and gluten free and don’t contain any mystery ingredients.

In fact, they fit right in with a diet I’ve recently had to adopt so even I gave them a little nibble. While I wouldn’t keep them around as a snack for myself, I feel perfectly confidant feeding them to Gus knowing that they are safe and all natural.

Stay tuned for my reviews of their Peanut Butter Puppy Scoops Ice Cream and Wheat Free Pumpkin Spice Cake.

  9. I was curious how a chocolate cake could be safe for dogs, but see from the ingredients list that it's carob! I like that the list the ingredients, and also love that their 'black velvet cake' for dogs is not only wheat free but uses beets to color it rather than chemical dyes.
