Review/Giveaway: Sincerely Ginger Jewelry Paw Print Collection

66 comments:

Among my very favorite things is discovering companies that include charitable causes as a part of their focus - it's been my pleasure to be able to review of few of these, and now I get to do another!

Sincerely Ginger is a line of quality jewelry, currently available in two collections: the Pinwheel Birthstone Collection that supports the American Red Cross, and the Paw Print Collection, which provides a generous portion of the sales to the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society (PAWS).

PAWS is the sort of charity near and dear to my heart.  Our own dog, Sadie has been with us for many years now. She was a rescue dog and is now in her mid-teens.

No-kill shelters that help find forever homes for dogs like her are doing incredibly important work.

Sincerely Ginger's Jewelry Paw Print Collection includes a variety of pieces that portray a dog's paw print. All of Ginger's jewelry is made with fine quality silver or gold, and some include precious gems as well. This isn't costume jewelry and prices reflect the materials that are used.

I received for review a pair of the Paw Earrings with Swarovski CZ, which sells for $75.00 on her website.  I was charmed before I even opened the package by the cloth and ribbon wrapped box, and was very happy when I opened it to reveal the earrings.

These earrings, along with Sincerely Ginger's other silver jewelry, are made with a type of silver called Argentium Silver, which not only provides a lovely highly reflective white shine that is very tarnish resistant, but is also made with recycled silver so that it reduces impact on the environment.  Crystal chips provide an added bit of glitter.  This same design is also available with diamonds for $360.

When it comes to earrings, there are two things that will lead me to wear them often:

1. Do they look good?  That seems like a no brainer, because who would buy jewelry they don't think looks good?  But sometimes earrings look better on their card than in my ears - especially dangles, which sometime hang at an odd angle so that I'm constantly adjusting them.  Sometimes the color simply doesn't suit me, or the earrings get lost or tangled in my hair.

2. Is it comfortable? The answer to this can be no for several reasons - earrings that are heavy enough to pull, or if they are made with reactive metals that lead to itching.  Sometimes, they seem to just not be well balanced, leading to their either trying to fall out, or to jamming themselves into my earlobe in an uncomfortable way.  If I am breathing a sigh of relief when it's time to take them out, I'm probably going to hesitate before wearing them again.

The Sincerely Ginger Silver Paws Earrings pass both of these issues with flying colors.  They lay like a dream, and catch the light very easily.  The curved hook is attractively shaped and stays in place (small plastic tubes come with them to ensure that they don't get lost).  They cause absolutely no irritation, either where they are inserted into my ear or on the skin where the dangle touches.

And in fact, they're so comfortable that a couple weeks ago, after I'd put them on, I forgot all about them and slept in them - and still didn't realize I had them in.  I don't know if I've ever slept in dangle earrings before without quickly realizing the mistake, because that is uncomfortable!

But I didn't realize it at all until the next morning - and in fact, I've kept them in since, with no problems and no discomfort at all!

In addition to Sincerely Ginger's Jewelry Collections, she is also now offering soy candles in a range of colors and scents.  Like the jewelry, a portion of the sales price goes to the buyer's choice of charity (PAWS or the American Red Cross), and on the lid of the candles it says, "With this Candle I helped save a life."

All in all, I am very happy with these earrings, and with Sincerely Ginger's focus on giving back, and would heartily recommend her jewelry to anyone seeking high quality, fun and unique jewelry.  I think any of these pieces would make a welcome gift and could easily become a signature piece for a dog loving woman.

I am really excited that RCHReview is able to host a Giveaway of Sincerely Ginger's Textured Paw Necklace!  This gorgeous piece, valued at $100, is made of Argentium Silver, and the paw has a textured surface sure to catch the light as the wearer moves.  The pendant comes with a 20" silver chain.

Review: NaturaLove Amber

4 comments:

Being a mom to young ones nowadays, you can't help but hear about amber necklaces for teething. It might be a mommy friend, somebody in your La Leche League group, or even a family member, but somebody is more than likely going to tell you about the wonders of amber. And then somebody will tell you it's a bunch of hooey. Let me tell you about my experiences with amber teething necklaces and NaturaLove Amber.

I first heard about amber teething necklaces 4 years ago, when Mischief was just a hatchling; one of the moms at my local LLL meeting told me about it, and I figured it couldn't hurt to try, so I ordered one and did some more research.

Amber teething necklaces are worn by the baby while supervised, and are thought to help with the discomfort of teething, including the drooling and bright red cheeks. According to the websites I looked up, amber contains 3-8% succinic acid (which is used in modern painkillers) and when it warms up against the skin, it can be absorbed to help ease pain and inflammation.

Some websites also claim that it stimulates the thyroid gland and the immune system, further helping relieve and prevent discomfort. I have not personally seen or read the scientific papers (if there are any) in relation to this, so I can't claim that this is the gods honest truth. You can also find websites and anecdotes of people that call bull on the amber teething necklace.

I do know this: I know that I never once had a problem with Mischief drooling, nor can I remember his cheeks being cherry red that I've seen on some babies. Not once did we use Orajel, and we only gave Tylenol a handful of times his entire first couple of years.

I know that he was happier when we put it on him, even bringing it to us once he started walking. I don't know if it was because the amber worked, because it was habit, if it was all in my head, or if it was all in his, but honestly, does it matter? If your child is happier wearing it than not, and it doesn't hurt them to wear it, does it really matter why?

When I found out I was expecting my daughter, I knew I wanted her to have an amber necklace as well. I especially wanted her to have one because she has a rare genetic condition called PKU, which makes giving her medicine difficult. But we had a problem. Mischief still wore his! For a while, they shared, the baby wearing when I knew teeth were coming, and big brother wearing the other days. It was not, safe to say, very effective. So, I was more than thrilled to have the chance to try out NaturaLove Amber teething necklace!

The necklace came via Amazon and was tucked in an adorable burlap bag with a tag that gave me its certificate of authenticity. It is a 12 inch necklace of dark amber beads. Each bead is knotted into place, so in the event that the necklace breaks, only one bead goes flying, and not all of them.

It has a screw clasp, which makes it difficult for baby to get off by themselves. My Princess has yet to figure it out, and she'll be 18 months this month. It is a cute little necklace that is truly unisex in color and design.

We have gone through many teeth popping out, including FOUR premolars!, and I can honestly say that we have not used any painkillers even once. She had not drooled, not even a little, nor did her cheeks get all red and puffy.

Being her mom, I could tell if we hadn't put the necklace on that morning, but it may not have been that apparent to everybody. Again, though, I ask: Does it matter? Does it matter if somebody else can't see the difference if you can? I don't think so. So, she continues to wear her pretty necklace every day. If we forget, she usually brings it to either my Mister or myself to fix it.

I'll be honest, it isn't the day and night difference that we saw with Mischief, but there is a difference; a little less whiny, a few less tears, but I notice, and it matters to me.

NaturaLove Amber sells its' darling necklaces on Amazon for $17.95, (honestly, I paid WAY more for Mischief's when he was a hatchling, and the differences between the necklaces are almost nonexistent). I honestly think that this is something you should try if you're looking for a more natural approach to your baby's teething frustrations.

Review: Catherine's Treasure Box

5 comments:

Like most women that I know, I enjoy pretty jewelry. I like getting it for my birthday, a holiday, or my personal favorite, just because. I have also made it a point in my life to become less reliant on big box stores for my needs, preferring to patronize small businesses. Etsy stores offer me a great way to do that, without the need to put on real pants or strap the children in the car. Catherine's Treasure Box combines the two, making me very happy.

Catherine's Treasure Box is an Etsy store that offers handmade jewelry made with elements such as gorgeous stone and recycled glass.

Each section of the store is labeled as a type of “box”, such as the whimsical box, the holiday box, and the giving box, each having bracelets, necklaces, and earrings that fit the description.

The piece I received was a stunning pink and black beaded necklace with a dyed stone pendant, which had a tag pricing it at $65.

It arrived tucked in a lovely green silk pouch, which was wrapped in festive tissue paper, and was accompanied by a handwritten note and a smattering of business cards.

I'm not always the worlds biggest fan of the color pink, but this necklace is in such a wonderful shade, I can't help but be drawn to it.

The dusty rose of the beads actually complements my milky winter complexion perfectly, bringing out a subtle flush, making me look somewhat closer to human. Every time I wear it, the Mister remarks on how well it looks on me.

One of my favorite components in this necklace is actually the toggle piece. An element that is often overlooked and plain, this toggle piece is decorated with banding and a rose in bloom. This little detail shows how much attention is paid to making each piece special.

I find myself choosing this beautiful piece over and over, because it is so very pretty, but also because it is durable, standing up to my darling daughter using it as a fidget when she nurses. The swirling striped stone fits almost perfectly in her little hand.

This necklace has stood up to everything my life has had to throw at it.

I know that next time I'm thinking of finding a unique piece of jewelry for a friend, family member, or even for myself, I'm going to be checking out Catherine's TreasureBox!

Right now, Catherine's Treasure Box has a posted sale - use the code SALE30 to get 30% off your order! That's a great deal, and just in time for a bit of romantic gifting, too.

Review/Giveaway: Soundwave Art Pendant

34 comments:

Memories...
Something that we try to hold onto for as long as we can.

I was given the chance to review a piece of jewelry that will enable you to walk around with a special memory, keeping it alive forever.

Now as you can see, I have a tattoo of Roman numeral over my heart (My 1st born's birthday).  I love it, and I wanted something equally meaningful and lasting that that represent my love for my husband, but not in permanent ink on my body.

Now before you say it ,yes, that could very much be my wedding ring, but we were not able to get it personalized. And he wanted to do something for me that came from how he felt after being married to me for 3 years.

This gave him a chance to say how he felt and forever imprint these words next to my heart where he belongs. And did I mention no TATTOO!!

Soundwave Art gave us a chance to express this using their amazing technology and creating a sound wave of his voice which they printed on a necklace. He was even able to personalize it on the back, which is says 4ever Mrs. Davis

On the front is the sound wave art that can never be taken from me.  I LOVE IT!

When you go to their website to make a purchase, they have this specially designed software that allows you to set up your soundwave and place your entire order online. This software gives you a chance to have your loved one or yourself make a personalized message and to hear it back to make sure you love it.

For their pendants, we were given a 10 seconds timeframe, and that surprisingly was more the enough, and he didn't even have to say his message fast to fit in there:

Adrenne, you are my light, my world, an amazing mother and my best friend. I love you...

*I know tears, he is so sweet!!*

Even with that, there was some time left but we decided that was perfect. Its makes me think of all of our great times together, when we became more then friends and parents together. Its a statement for me from my husband that keep our memories together fresh on my mind.

Once we submitted the order, it took about 7 to 10 business days for it to arrive - pretty fast for a customized product!

The week it arrived was a tough one for me - my husband (who is in the military) was currently in the field. Basically, he away from home for two weeks with only a so-so phone connection to call home. Around the first week of these periods, I am really sad and thinking about how much I miss him, but in the mail on the second day was this necklace.

My day immediately turned around, and I thought of his message to me and it made me smile. I wear it all the time now because even when he is here or at work and I need a little happy thought, I can touch my necklace and think of our times together.  To me that makes this completely worth it!

On the quality of the necklace, my personally opinion is the chain it self is really tiny. I was holding a baby and fearing for my life that it would break.

The pendant itself has a little weight, which I like - I don't have to worry about the wind slinging it everywhere, but I do worry that the chain itself might be too dainty for it.

The loop on the back is also on the smaller side, if you do not have nails to place to open it you will have some errors, but my husband was able to do it after a few tries.

On the plus side, I didn't have those moments of it turning on its own showing the back of the pendant, a problem I frequently have with my other necklaces.. I love the length of the necklace as well - it wasn't too long to where it gets hidden by my cleavag,e and wasn't too short to where I felt like any moment I would choke.

Overall I love this message behind it, the memories it will always remind me of and the way it goes with anything that I wear. Though I am fearful to have this amazing necklace in the path of toddlers or playing sports, it is a great piece to own.

While I chose the vertical pendant in white gold, they also have some amazing rings and other size and angle pendants, as well as customized wall art (Jackie reviewed that service about a year and a half ago).

The custom pendants range in price from $149 to $179 in Sterling silver with a sterling silver chain.  For additional cost, they can also be purchased in either 14K Gold or 14K White Gold.

Soundwave Art is letting us host a giveaway for one of their Sterling Silver Custom Pendants and Chain, in the design of the winner's choice!  Read on to see how you can enter to get one of your own.

Review and Giveaway: Teething Bling

43 comments:

Any parent knows the struggle of having a baby that is teething... Grabbing any and everything to soothe those emerging teeth, drool all over that beautiful necklace you got for Christmas, not to mention pulling on said necklace and possibly damaging the clasps!

Well, there is no need to worry about your jewelry anymore, because Teething Bling has come up with a great product that is both fashionable and practical - so fashionable that you can even find celebrities sporting the same necklace you have on!! From Tori Spelling to Angela Bassett, many celebrities have been seen wearing one of the 14 styles of jewelry that Teething Bling offers.

Let me start by letting you know what I am dealing with at home... I have a busy little 2 year old who is slowly getting her teeth in. She only has 5 teeth right now and when this product arrived to me, she was getting all 4 of her molars in AT ONCE! Talk about a relief when my Onyx Donut Necklace come in the mail (only about a week after requesting it, talk about fast!).

I put the necklace on and as soon as I showed my daughter, she was hooked! She said "ohhh mommy pretty, can I bite? " After that she was begging me to hold her and always had the necklace in her mouth.

We've tried amber teething necklaces, the teething tablets, the gel, everything. Nothing has helped her, but this product has kept her distracted and not chewing on her fingers! That's a big plus in my book.

Since the Teething Bling necklace is a soft Silicone, there is no need to worry about sharp edges or a hard stone.

The Nylon cord which holds the silicone donut is soft and in no way bothered my skin (I have extremely sensitive skin)

The clasp is said to breakaway easily, I personally had to really yank at it to get it to come undone. I am not sure how much pressure is needed to actually break away the clasp, and I may have been doing it too lightly. With that being said, overall, I really enjoyed this product and the way it looked, felt and how my daughter enjoyed it.

After a little research on Teething Bling/Smart Mom Jewelry, I was even more intrigued by the product and company itself. This company was created by a bunch of moms who have come together for the greater cause, our children. Amy Creel, the owner of the company, started this company in inspiration and memory of her late sister-in-law, an accomplished fashion designer and artist. In her memory, the company works with Dress for Success, a charity that helps economically challenged women get on their feet by providing both professional clothing and career support and development.

The mission of the company, the quality of the product, the variety that is offered, are all things, I as a mother look for when choosing something of this nature. I will be recommending this to a few of my mama friends in the near future and hope you take a moment to check out the website so you can see first hand what I did!

PLEASE do not fail to leave the comment and then go on to do other things to enter.  We check to see to it the comment is there no matter which item was the thing that won so if you haven't commented, you're not actually entering the giveaway, and we'll have to disqualify you!

Review: Handmade Charms by Sasha Smith

11 comments:

I have a confession. Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to have a charm bracelet. My biggest problem was that I simply couldn't find charms that were unique enough and still meant something to me. And even though I can knit a badass sweater, I never did learn how to make my own adorable charms. Therefore, my charm bracelet dreams never came to be.

Enter Handmade Charms by Sasha Smith, and her Etsy shop, Squished Berries! Sasha makes completely adorable charms out of polymer clay. Now, being crafty myself, I've dabbled in the world of polymer clay, but she creates such wonderfully detailed pieces of art that I couldn't even dream of making. Every charm comes with a lobster clasp to make putting the charm on and taking it off of your bracelet extremely easy.

I was finally able to realize my dream of a charm bracelet when I received four adorable charms, two beautiful scones (because I told her that I like to bake) and two mother baby charms (hearts with footprints) to represent each of my children. I also received a set of super cute fun chocolate chip cookie earrings. I quickly put them on a link bracelet I already owned.

The level of detail on these is absolutely amazing, especially on the scones. The icing and chips are simply perfect. Every time I wear my (frankly too cute) charms, I get a plethora of comments and compliments on them. Also with my charms and earrings there was a lovely handwritten “Thank you and Happy Holidays” note that added a sweet, personal touch to the whole thing.  That's the sort of extra that I really appreciate about small businesses.

While browsing her Etsy shop, I found that most of her charms are drool worthy food, from caramel apples to sushi, though there are a few nonfood items as well.

She also offers a plain necklace and a plain bracelet so you can get everything to make your own charmed jewelry in one place.

Also available are a couple custom charm bracelets, a pregnancy cravings bracelet where you can put all of your favorite pregnancy foods on a bracelet, and a book bracelet that lets you proudly show off your favorite books.

While she is currently not taking any more orders until the new year, I am definitely keeping HandmadeCharms by Sasha Smith in mind for future gifting opportunities, as well as updating my new shiny charm bracelet!

Review & Giveaway: Starlight Wraps

51 comments:

I was very excited to be given the opportunity to review one of Starlight Wraps beautiful wrap bracelets - I love handcrafted jewelry, and this Colorado-based crafter really puts a lot of attention into designs that evoke various celestial themes. Her daughters and nieces help her select just the right name to match the look of the wrap to a particular Astronomical or Meteorological theme. I also see a good bit of attention being paid to the mythological sources of some of these names. I am fascinated to know that the piece is designed before it is given a name, because each of the names fit so perfectly with the wrap it goes with!

Rexanne, the designer and owner of Starlight Wraps is actually rather new to beading, which just further suggests to me that there is some inspiration at work here. Beading began as hobby she picked up to keep busy during off-season time periods at her Estes Park, CO boutique Windsong Fashion.  In an odd turn of meteorological fate, she found herself with plenty of time and motivation to develop her beading skills, when a severe flood in September 2013 blocked access to her boutique for a period of several months!  It turned out that her wrap designs were enormously popular and led to this second business operating in tandem with Windsong Fashion.

In asking about desires for the future of Starlight Wraps, Rexanne mentioned how much she'd like to be able to offer collections of wraps as bridal party gifts - an idea I find just tremendously appealing, especially if they could be done as custom designs in the wedding's colors and theme.  Should anyone be interested, I suggest getting in contact with her about that - my communications with her have been very helpful and thorough, and I believe she'd be happy to work with someone seeking a custom order of several wraps for special occasions.

It was very hard to choose which wrap I wanted, but Athena just kept drawing my eye - it is long enough to wrap five times, and is a series of silver textured beads and turquoise beads, all contained within a pair of silken cords.

I put it on the moment it arrived and quickly realized two very wonderful things about this bracelet - first, it actually lets me wear a snug cuff on my small wrists.  As much as I love bracelets, they often are too large to wear comfortably.  Secondly, the large sparkly button that connects it makes it easy for me to put this on and take it off by myself, and yet it keeps it securely on.

A couple days later, my daughter, who has metal sensitivity issues, helped me realize a third wonderful thing - while this particular wrap has metal beads, many of Starlight Wraps' designs do not. These are very fashionable jewelry items that can be worn by people who may have given up on jewelry due to allergies!

As you can see, it is quite a statement piece and I cannot wait until warmer weather let's me dress to show it off properly.  Meanwhile, I have worn it for several days, quickly removing it for showers and washing dishes, but otherwise leaving it on while sleeping or working, and I find it quite comfortable.  It doesn't get in the way or start to feel binding at all, which is quite a feat - I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and sometimes I can't stand to have things constricting me, but this stayed comfortable even through a very creaky weekend.

Athena is going to become a signature piece of jewelry for me - or one of them, because I can already see a couple more designs I may just have to have.

Luckily for my wallet, on Facebook, Starlight Wraps offers frequent giveaways and discounts, the better to fill my jewelry box with. Additionally, luckily for yours, she's also agreed to let us offer a giveaway and a very generous discount to our readers.

Before I show off what you can win, I wanted to offer one last reason why you really want to own a Starlight Wrap - Rexanne donates 10% of Starlight Wrap's net profit to a variety of children's charities that aid children around the world.  It's such a pleasure for me to support small businesses that give back.

For our Reviews, Chews & How-Tos readers, Starlight Wraps is offering a 40% discount code off the entire order - when you make your purchase use the code:
 STARLIGHT40

Meanwhile, Starlight Wraps has agreed to let us sponsor a giveaway of the stunning Aurora wrap, a $49.00 value, composed of pink iridescent square beads and certain to help its wearer 'Always Sparkle', day or night.  I had a very hard time when I was making my initial selection choosing between this and Athena!

This Giveaway is open World Wide and will end at11:55 PM EDT on Monday, April 14th.  I wish you all the very best of luck!

Review: Kendra Studio Jewellery

8 comments:

Reviewer: Jackie Snider

"One of a Kind. Timeless. Sexy. You.” That’s the tagline on Kendra Studio Jewellery’s Facebook page. Nothing could ring more true when describing her breathtaking pieces! Each piece is handcrafted and unique from one another.

The artist, Kendra Roberts is so incredibly talented. On top of that, she is very personable and such a pleasure to work with.

It’s no wonder Kendra Roberts really knows what she is doing! From a young age, she was very interested and talented in art. In college she refined that to focus on jewelry making. She completed her Master’s in the art at Glasgow School of Art in Scotland. Having that under her belt, she moved to New York, where she opened up Kendra Studio Jewellery, where she currently resides.

Kendra handpicked a piece for me based on a little detective work she did on my Facebook profile. She discovered two things that really make me who I am; I am a mother, and I am a military spouse.  The piece she chose was a Mother of Pearl circle pendant with a feather drop.   The mother of pearl is clearly hinting at the mother aspect of my life, while the shape of the piece is reminiscent of a crest of sorts, signifying both family and militant lifestyles. I was very impressed with the personal touch she connected me with the piece.

The necklace is absolutely gorgeous. I’m so happy to finally have real adult jewelry! I did have to buy an extension for it, as it was far too snug when it first arrived. It is a 16-inch chain on its own, and I got a 4-inch extension and now it lies perfectly.

On Kendra’s Etsy page she displays necklaces, rings, bracelets and earrings, cuff links, and more. All of which are so amazing! This is far from cheap costume jewelry. Each piece is handmade with semi-precious stones or shells, lain in sterling silver. Each stone or shell is hand-cut and hand-polished by Kendra herself. Her prices range per piece, as no two is alike. My necklace would have retailed for $125, which appears about average for her jewelry.

Kendra Studio Jewellery’s debut was nothing short of appropriate for the level of ‘stunning’ found in her work- New York Fashion Week in 2005! Since then, KSJ has been featured on many media outlets. One of those avenues includes HGTV, which ran a segment in 2007 showing how the jewelry is actually crafted! I’ve watched it four different times and I just find it absolutely intriquing.

In the video you really get a sense of who Kendra is as a person. She seems so sweet and bubbly, and someone you really want to support in her endeavors.

Even though it was not part of this review, I can’t leave this without making the mouths of all the readers water uncontrollably as mine did when I saw this piece:

This necklace is called Seascape at Sunrise. You can see the blue/green colors of the sea on the bottom with the orange/red tones of the sunrise over top of it. This is made with Turquoise, lapis, rhodonite, mother of pearl and abalone shell, apple green turquoise, certified ivory, red and violet spiny oyster shell inlay in sterling silver. Even from the back it makes a statement with the ten-inch drop the chain makes. This breathtaking one-of-a-kind necklace could be yours for just $6,250! Whew, what I wouldn’t give!

Kendra’s jewelry can be found in 24 different shops across 17 states!

NOTE TO HUSBAND—Dear, I’m going to need a matching pair of mother of pearl earrings. See picture below:
