Trongs Finger Food Utensils Review/Giveaway

I have quite a few anxieties with it comes to food. Certain textures or even appearances will cause me to quickly lose my appetite. I dread a slightly under cooked egg, I don't like half melted cheese, and for the majority of the things I eat, I don't care what the food is, I don't want to TOUCH it.

This doesn't count for things like pizza, or fries or other obvious finger foods, but if it is saucy I just CAN'T. I dread touching food that is going to make me messy, even if a towel or wet wipe is at the ready.

The worst thing a restaurant could do to me is serve pasta with shrimp and leave the tails on. Ugh!

I was over the age of 25 before I tried my first saucy hot wing. The taste was actually pretty good but I couldn't handle more than a few before I just wasn't enjoying eating it.

So when I came across a product called Trongs, I seriously said aloud – “these were made for me!”

Trongs are a three finger (thumb, pointer and middle) set of tongs that let you pick up messy food for food preparation or eating, without needing to touch the food.

I was able to receive a set for review, and couldn't wait to see if these might be the answer to my dilemma.

When the package arrived I was actually surprised to see so many. There was 12, which makes 6 pairs.

Looking at them I assumed they must be disposable, but after getting my hands on them, and doing some research it turns out they are actually reusable! I couldn't find an answer on if they are dishwasher safe, but they've been doing well for me in the silverware basket.

One of the first things my husband did was make hot wings! We never have them for dinner because I don't like them. Except, it turns out I that I DO like them! I just didn't like to eat them. Thanks Trongs!

Depending on the task, Trongs can also help with several food preparation tasks. Touching raw meat is gross, and also increases the risk of food contamination.

They would be fantastic for dredging and breading chicken or pork! Or getting raw beef chunks out of their packet for stew!

We shred either cooked chicken or pork at least once a week, always by hand, and I can't wait to try using these while doing it.

We don't like the double fork method because it drives me crazy hearing fork scrape plate. (Sooo many issues!)

Just to see how far they could go, I tried to use them to roll Taco Bites, but it didn't work out so well - that's a task that takes a bit more dexterity and precision than these allow.  Even so, I know I'll find plenty of reasons to use these to prepare food.

When it comes to using Trongs to eat with, I notice that I'm definitely using far more fewer napkins and can switch to other tasks more quickly.

I don't have to spent the time cleaning myself up to answer the phone, or deal with a kid emergency. I can simply set the Trongs down like a tripod, handle other business and come back to them without touching the messy ends, with ease!

When I started this review process, although I thought they were cool, I was sure they were super gimmicky and silly. I'm surprised to come out the other end loving these so much!

Off the top of my head, these could be used for so many foods my family enjoys:

Hot wings
Taco Bites
Veggies Trays
Shrimp Cocktail
Nuggets
Bratwurst Bites
Ribs
Cheese Fries, Chili Fries, etc
Potato Chips, Cheetos, etc
Sushi

On top of all the ways Trongs can help to keep your hands clean.... what if you ALREADY have dirty hands and don't want to get them on your food?

These would be great to bring to a picnic, when you won't always have the opportunity to wash hands after playing all afternoon.

After working with them awhile, I understand the value of having the 12 pack set - not only does it allow multiple family members to use them, but they can be used for food prep as well as for eating, and a set or two can be tucked into your bag or glove box.

The 12 pack I received, which is their largest set, costs $19.95 on their website, but is currently on sale for $14.95. They also have a 4 pack (2 pairs) that retails for $8.99.

  1. So funny - I avoid eating wings too, due to how messy they are. But what I would LOVE to have these for is handling raw meat without having to touch it so much.

  9. That's actually convenient! I have to get them as well. After I did a renovation in my kitchen and installed new cabinets from Kitchen Design Philadelphia , I started buying a lot of appliances and just things that can be useful in the kitchen because I finally have enough space to store everything, and these trongs are definitely a must-have.
