Recently, I had the pleasure of receiving a monthly tasting subscription box from a lovely company called Amoda Tea. Amoda Tea offers the tea enthusiast a variety of ways to shop and discover exciting new flavors.
Their monthly tasting box features a curated selection of tea samples of a common theme. It is a wonderful way to try out something different without making a commitment to a large quantity. If you fall in love with one of the blends in your subscription box, they make it very simple to order more.
Amoda’s website is very user friendly and pleasing to the eye. Detailed product descriptions help you understand the nuances and flavor profiles of each item.
The founders of Amoda Tea seek out small batch, craft tea makers. These tea artisans are providing delicious blends that are not widely available in a commercial market. Amoda Tea brings these artisans to a broader audience, exposing you the consumer to a wonderful product you may never have been able to get otherwise.
My December’s Winter Tasting Box featured four small pouches of tea and a Sweet Petite Confectioner’s Chai Infused Marshmallow. Each pouch included enough tea for three cups.
Because different varieties of tea leaves require varying water temperatures and steeping times, that information is provided on each label. Also included on the label is the caffeine content and a flavor profile.
Inside the box is a more detailed flavor profile for each blend. I enjoyed this part as it told a little story about the flavor of the teas. I felt it helped enrich the experience.
A particular touch that I appreciated came in the form of a roll biodegradable tea filters. These tea bags are very long and have a generous opening for adding tea. With no way to close them, I was concerned that the tea leaves might float out. This was not the case however. They functioned perfectly well and make cleaning out my teapot much simpler. I can just toss the tea bag in the compost heap with no worries.
Every tasting box will have a different selection of blends in it, so it doesn’t do a great deal of help to go into detail about what each tea tasted like, but I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed each blend. They were all suited to the cold weather of December and the spice of the holiday season.
Just like a great cup of coffee, you can most certainly taste the difference when quality and care are given to the ingredients. Amoda certainly delivered on their promise.
Of course I had a favorite and I am anxious to place an order for more of the Wild Women Blend, described thusly:
“Brace yourself for an amazing dark berry aroma. Don’t let it scare you off though because it softens in the sip. The hibiscus is light and adds to how deliciously tart this tea is. The blueberry and black currant authentically flavour a bold black tea base.”
The other blends included were Ginger Cream - a ginger flavored black tea, Celebration Medley - a rose and spice roobios tea, and Ball and Chain - an Oolong infused with Medjool Dates and marigolds.
You can subscribe to Amoda Tea’s monthly tasting box by visiting their website. The monthly box sells for $18/m with free shipping. Boxes ship on the eighth of the month, all across North America and are small enough to fit into most standard mail slots.
You will also be able to shop for teas which are organized in a variety of ways, in case you aren’t certain what you might be looking for.
You can also find them on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram.
