I don’t currently have a kid that is in (full time) sippy cups. I have an often times clumsy (in other words, normal) 5 year old and a 4 month old. However there certainly are occasions, especially when in someone else's home, that all of a sudden I recall each and every spill Hailey’s ever had, while she drinks from an open-top on their white carpet.
Additionally, most of my friends' children are a little younger. I’ve tried restocking a few sippy cups for when they are in our home.
One of the many problems with sippy cups, that I seemed to have forgotten until I bought some for visitors, is that unless you own all one kind, it is going to drive you crazy. It becomes the same issue as Tupperware - lots of bottoms and lids, yet none seem to match!! Furthermore, in our house, they take up a decent amount of space for only being pulled out on occasion.
Thanks to Sativa Turner and Michelle Ivankovic at Double/Double, SipSnap exists! Sipsnap is a unique 100% platinum silicone lid that stretches over the mouth of ANY cup you already have in your cabinets.
SipSnap offers two different styles- Kid and Tot. I was lucky enough to try both to show to you!
no opening in this one |
Three come in a nicely packaged square box, with one clear travel case and instructions.
Unfortunately, upon inspecting the lids I discovered two that didn’t appear to even have a opening.
After about 5 minutes of fiddling with one, the perforation seemed to break and then it worked fine, however one never did. I tried everything, but it was a completely closed mouthpiece.
So that was definitely a bummer! Still, I had three to work with.
It was very easy to put on. To put on, you have to un-flip the under flap. (say that three times fast!) Then stretch it larger than the mouth of the cup and place over top. It is surprisingly secure!
My daughter wanted it off halfway, just because she said she felt like a baby. But she assured me it flowed nicely and was easy to use.
The SipSnap Kid lid is the same idea, but instead of a mouthpiece it has a hole to stick a straw. I happily utilized it on my red solo for New Years Eve debauchery. It was a little difficult to spread that far, and I needed someone to hold the cup, while I put it on.
Also, I was afraid it was going to collapse the plastic cup but it held up pretty well. Although there was a air hole, I still found that since the straw was a snug fit it was creating a bit of a vacuum when I would take a sip. I think if the silicone wasn’t being stretched so much, and on a child size cup, it would have worked much better.
My only complaint is that these are not as mess-free as many sippy cups. Their packaging clearly states ‘spill proof, not leak proof’. I really don’t understand the difference there but at least they are honest.
Both SipSnap Tot and Kid can be purchased from their website, in sets of 3, for $21.00. They come in a variety of color scheme options. Each one ships with a clear carrying case.
Additionally, you can purchase a set of 3 bamboo fiber cups for $15.00, and an extra carrying case for $5. SipSnap also ships world wide!
I love that I was able to get rid of the chaotic cabinet of random sippy cups, and just have a small corner of a drawer with my SipSnap lids. I also love that if I just poured myself or my daughter a drink, and I suddenly have to run out the door, I don’t have to transfer cups and dirty more dishes, or risk it sloshing all over my cars cup holders - I just slap on a SipSnap, add a straw and we're good to go! (Though it should be noted, SipSnap is for cold beverages only!)

What a great looking little lid! Thanks for linking up to Snickerdoodle Sunday.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool product! I love that you can use it on any cup you already own. This would be so much better than having a kitchen full of sippy cups.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful. I won't have to look for all the parts to the Sippy cup and with less spilling we won't have to change our cloths as often either.
ReplyDeleteThese are brilliant! I wish I was clever enough to come up with ideas like this. Adding to my registry...
ReplyDeletethis is a clever idea; i know some friends who would benefit with its usage.
