This is definitely a thing that needed to happen.
Most “energy bars” are nothing more than glorified candy bars with a healthy-sounding name to make it more marketable. With flavors such as “Cookies N Cream” and “Chocolate Brownie”, it’s not much different than a Snickers bar, except ooh! Ooh! It has protein!! That must mean it’s good for me!
One look at the ingredient list of a SLOW Food For Fast Lives Bar should prove that these are something different. Instead of “maltitol syrup” and “chocolate-flavored coating” (complete with fractionated palm kernel oil, mmm!), you get ingredients like almonds, kale, pomegranate, and quinoa. An “energy bar” with actual food in it—who would have thought?
Slow Food For Fast Lives makes snack bars full of real, healthy, delicious ingredients that are savory rather than sweet, which is great for people like me who loathe the sticky sweet “energy bars” currently on the market.
Sometimes I’m too busy to sit down and eat, and before I tried the bars from Slow Food For Fast Lives, I would easily choose to go hungry rather than eating a nasty sugar bar.
I received a sampling of each of the bars, with flavors including the California (with kale, almonds, pomegranate, and broccoli), Indian (with cashews, cauliflower, coconut, and mangoes), Thai (with peanuts, chili, brown rice, and bell pepper) and Moroccan (with pistachios, currants, carrots, and ginger).
Each bar contains between 1-1.5 servings of fruit and vegetables.
When you open the wrapper, you can actually see actual ingredients—unlike their more mainstream counterparts, which tend to resemble something you may find underneath a park bench.
These bars disappeared over the course of two days. All were delicious, but my favorite was probably the Indian. A curry flavored snack bar? Yes, please!
The digestive experience was noticeably different than your average snack bar. They don’t sit like a lump in your stomach, nor do they give you the sugar-rush and crash. They’re great to carry in your pocket, purse, or car—and they won’t even melt!
A box of 12 bars is $29.99, which is comparable to other bars on the market. (But these have the advantage of tasting a whole lot better.) These will likely end up being a staple in my house.

I have never been an energy bar lover. They taste too processed to me. Would much rather much on a handful of nuts or eat fresh fruit. These sound as though they might be tasty. Thanks for sharing with SYC.

ReplyDeleteI'd love to try all of them except for the Thai, and that's only because I can't eat bell peppers - I think all of these have really interesting flavor profiles. I'd especially enjoy the carrot-ginger version, I think!
