Review: SquareHue Subscription Box

Who doesn't  want pretty nails? And pretty nails that supports a great cause? I'm in!

This month, I got the  chance to review SquareHue, a subscription company out of Florida who delivers 3 exclusive, premium nail polishes to your door in the first week of every month. 

Every month is a new theme with different and unique colors that exemplify high fashion, and are meant to break you out of your shell. For me, my "shell" included Vamp by Chanel, black, and, yeah, that was it. Consider me a fashionable Humpty Dumpty, I'm now wearing 2 colors I never would have chosen for myself!

When I received my SquareHue box, it was small and didn't look like much. When opened, you see it is a branded box with the 3 exclusive  polishes, and a product card detailing the colors and finishes of the polishes. 

I'm not big into nail fashion. I didn't consider different finishes, or textures for polishes.  It makes sense, though - my hubby is a car guy, so I know all about matte finish, and matte metalics, and micro glitter. Duh, girls get these cool advances in color technology  too!

2014 for SquareHue was all about different fashionable locations. Some months have included locations such as New York, London, and Paris. 

December's destination was Rovaniemi.  (Rovenemi is a city in Finland, I totally had to look that one up!) On the bottom of each polish is the name of the color with the month and year the color was released.

Joulesupunkin Pajakylä  (Finnish for Santa Claus Village) is described as a micro glitter. This color is what allowed me to be in my shell still, in the deep red family of color I'm very comfortable with.

Sampokeskus (a Shopping Centre at Rovaniemi, an oasis of trends, fashion and beauty) is described as a textured micro glitter.  This gold polish has great texture. For days I kept rubbing my ring finger nails,  and made others feel them too. A fun accent to the red of the first color. Even with all the layers of topcoat painted on, the gritted texture is awesome! 

I was afraid of Revontuli (a year round resort where northern lights can easily be seen). Revontuli is a deep green, described as having a suede texture. I think the finish really threw off the woman painting my toe nails, because she kept applying the topcoat, she wanted shiny toes. The polish held up to its description, suede. Its actually  a very pretty  color, it surprised me.

I'm excited to see the 2015 monthly collections. The theme for the year is "Through the Decades." Fun!

The SquareHue monthly subscription is $14.99 + shipping. SquareHue also proudly boasts that it is made in the USA and is 5-free. 5-free means it is free if the 5 toxic chemicals not needed to make beautiful  polishes: formaldehyde, Toluene, DBP, Camphor or Formaldehyde Resin.

Now to the part I love most about SquareHue, Currently a portion of all monthly subscription proceeds are being donated for prevention, awareness, the protection of trafficked victims and the prosecution of human traffickers.  Proceeds go to the A21 Campaign - I followed the link to check out The A21 Campaign, which I did, and you should too.

 

When I learned there is more to SquareHue than beautifully curated, limited edition colors, all made in the USA, it made me love them.

Review & Giveaway: Clubfoot Accessories by Peekaboo Covers

If you have been following Penelope’s Clubfoot Journey, then you know that she has transitioned into Boots and Bars part of her treatment. These special shoes help maintain her corrected feet until the bones harden in a few years. She currently is in 23/7 wear, and in about another month will go into sleepwear only.

For the first month or so she was in the brace, we all suffered bruises from it. She had gained enough muscle control to throw her feet up in the air, which almost always concluded in someone being whacked in the head if we were lying with her.

Another common issue is the wear and tear the braces cause to cribs. We co-sleep so it isn’t an issue we face, but I can only imagine! Beating the rails of a crib every night with a metal bar would not only cause damage to the furniture, but I imagine the clanking would wake the baby as well.

Luckily, I came across Clubfoot Accessories by Peek-a-boo Covers! Peek-a-boo Covers, as a whole, sells many things such as blankets, diaper bags, car seat accessories, nursing covers, etc. However, as the owner is the mother to a child with clubfoot, she has a special section of her business dedicated to Clubfoot Accessories. Primarily she sells bar covers, but there is also some awareness ribbon Christmas ornaments and leggings.

I was able to choose the fabric I wanted on both sides (They are reversible!) as well as the embroidery. It was very difficult to choose as she had so many! I ended up going with Flannel pink and grey zigzags with a grey milky on the reverse. I wanted something neutral in case the pinks didn’t go with a particular outfit.

Since these are made to order, it is necessary to factor in a wait time. Her page says to expect approximately 2-3 weeks of wait time.  Mine arrived in just short of 4 weeks.

It is so incredibly soft! It opens to a flat, puffy square and comes with 3 snaps to secure around the bar.  It is 6 inches long. I was a little concerned with how well it would fit seeing as we had to actually have her bar cut because the smallest was still to wide for her. 

However, although it puffs a bit at the edges, it doesn’t looks bad, and has a little room to grow. Since she will have a bar spreading her feet until roughly 5 years of age, and it widens with the width of their shoulders, we will eventually have to get her larger 9 inch cover.

The only complaint I had was the font. I wasn’t particularly fond of the ‘P’, mostly. I felt it looked like a ‘J’, while my husband says he saw a ‘L’ every time he looked at it. She does, however, have a ton of fonts on her various pictures of past orders. I didn’t see any examples on her purchase page though, so I assume you would have to have a conversation with her to ensure one in particular.

Also she did send me a photo of it before sending it off, so I could have spoken up then and didn’t. I’m certainly she would have changed if I disapproved.

The stitching is not perfectly straight but it certainly does the job, and in my opinion it’s the little things like that, that personalize handmade treasures.  More importantly, this sort of speciality item really makes the entire Boots and Bars process so much easier to get through!

Peek-a-Boo’s Clubfoot Covers are machine washable, no special instructions. Ours never got messy, but for sake of review I did run it through a cycle anyway. It suffered no changes throughout, so that was wonderful!

After about a month of use, and one wash, it has gotten slightly pilly in appearance, but I believe it has only gotten softer!

According to their website, the cover fits over both the Ponseti Bar and the Dobbs Dynamic Bar.

Plain covers can be purchased for $14, and personalized ones can be bought for $19. And with hundreds of fabrics to choose from, I definitely plan on buying a few more so that it’s always sure to match her outfit!

Awesome Life Friday No. 1

Happy New Year, everyone!  I am so happy to announce that we're starting a weekly link up where you can share your favorite posts with us!

 Before we do that, I wanted to share a couple of quickie 'unboxings' from PetBox.  As I mentioned in my recent review, we'd purchased a couple boxes that were on sale for family members with pets.  Something messed up for a brief period of time with their ordering system and I was one of the lucky few that got caught by it.  The result was, the boxes were sent to my address rather than where they were supposed to go!

This was a little inconvenient, but fortunately, the family members are understanding and the actual recipients can't read a calendar, so we decided to skip rushing to the post office and just waited until this Monday to send them on their way.

This also gave me a chance to peek inside, and share with you what two of PetBox's Holiday Boxes looked like.
