Review & Giveaway: Midwest Family Life

As a mother of two, I can definitely say handmade is by far the way to go with baby items, whenever possible. If you, like me, are completely inept at all things sewing, companies like Midwest Family Life are there to help you provide great quality handmade treasures for the littles in your life!

Owner and operator, Erika LaPean, mom of three girls, has been at this for more than a decade, and that experience shines through in the quality of her items.

In her Etsy store you will find an array of adorable handmade baby gifts for both boys and girls. She makes and sells blankets, bibs, burp cloths, bonnets, purses for toddlers, and toys. Everything is so bright and cheery, I wish I could buy it all!

I received three items for review from Midwest Family Life - a nursing cover, a burp cloth, and a bib.

The nursing cover is lightweight breathable cotton in a beautiful blue and brown pattern. It has a rigid neckline with an adjustable strap that goes around the back. I don’t personally tend to use a cover while nursing, but I have loved having a good quality one on hand for the times when I do feel more comfortable covering up. It has already withstood multiple washes and there has been zero fraying. It also has retained its super soft feel.

I almost don’t want to convey how nice it is, because unfortunately Midwest Family Life has discontinued them from their store. They decided that their focus is much better put on the other items in their shop.

The burp cloth and bib set I received are a gender neutral grey, yellow and white pattern. I think the pattern is flowers, but it isn't girly. I don’t know how to describe just how soft these are! They are made from 100% cotton. You will almost never catch the burp cloth clean at our house because as soon as its washed, it is in use again. I keep it close at hand at all times. I love the size of it as well! It is 8” wide and 21” long!

We have not yet used the bib, but I'm sure it will be one of our favorites when the time does come.

I've never understood thin plastic bibs. Isn't the point so that they absorb the food that doesn't make it into their mouths?

This one has a secure plastic snap closure, ensuring baby isn't going to be able to yank it off, and is made with cotton and terry cloth. It is also large! When unbuttoned it measures 10” wide and 13” high. It is going to cover a good amount of baby real estate to get the job done.

A bib and burp cloth set costs $20, which is think is very reasonable for such high quality, trendy chic baby garb! Erika also makes teething toys, faux chenille blankets and other items in matching fabric patterns.

On her website, Erika also has a blog, where you will find recipes, advice to other business owners, ramblings of her personal life, and all kinds of fun little reads.
