I have such a strong appreciation for small businesses that give back, and today it is my great pleasure and honor to highlight a company that impresses me to no end - Purpose Outfitters. This is a sister company to Sockwork, which Jackie reviewed awhile ago.
Like Sockwork, Purpose Outfitters makes socks for men or women and donates a portion of what they make to a variety of charities. What sets Purpose Outfitters apart is that their selection of socks are each designed to commemorate a specific Fallen Soldier in partnership with their family, and a portion of the profits go to a Veteran friendly charity of the family's choice.
The next of kin of any Fallen Soldier can apply to Purpose Outfitters to have a sock dedicated to their veteran by contacting them at hero@purposeoutfitters.com.
For review, I was sent two pairs of socks - one for Marine LCpl.Colton W. Rusk and one for Army SSG Brian Piercy.
It was very hard to select, as each of the Hero's stories are quite compelling, and I hope you'll go read them all and check out their family's chosen charities.
But I did request LCpl. Rusk specifically, because he was a dog handler and his story touched me particularly deeply - his Black Lab, Eli, protected him after LCpl. Rusk was fatally shot by a sniper in Afghanistan in 2010, and now lives with Rusk's family.
The family has established the Colton Rusk Semper Fi Scholarship, and proceeds from his commemorate sock help fund it.
The pattern of this sock is woven into the fabric, not merely painted on, and it is a very attractive greenish-grey with black Labradors on it, black heel, toe and band. "Rusk" is woven into the top foot area just above the toe section. I've gotten several compliments while wearing them!
The second pair I was sent is designed and dedicated to Army SSG Brian Piercy. He was killed in Afghanistan in 2010 by injuries sustained from an IED. His death occurred less than a month before the end of his second tour in Afghanistan.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the Piercy sock go to help support Legacies Alive, which is a non-profit organization with a mission to help support Gold Star families (those who have lost a Fallen Hero) keep the memory of their loved ones alive via a variety of events and the establishment of local area memorials.
SSG Piercy's sock is also a very attractive design, with a navy blue front and dark red with white stars in the back. The toe and band are white, and "Piercy" is lettered in white just above the toe area.
On Veteran's Day and always. |
Care instructions recommend laying flat to dry rather than putting them through the dryer, which is what I'm doing to keep them in good shape.
In addition to the two I received, there are four other sock pairs currently available, each of them designed to highlight the warrior being commemorated. For example, CPT Torre Mallard's sock has a football pattern, reflecting his love of the game.
Purpose Outfitters socks are made in the US and are a blend of 70% Combed Cotton, 20% Nylon and 10% Spandex.

ReplyDeleteI subscribed to Sockwork as a Christmas gift for my brother, the socks are beautiful. It's such a great way to share the stories of our fallen heroes and receive socks dedicated to them. I applaud Sockwork/Purpose Outfitters for their vision and mission.
ReplyDeleteRusk reminds me of how much I love animals especially service dogs who help veterans live a quality life.
ReplyDeleteI commend Dogs 4 Warriors for supporting brave men and women along with their family who have served the country. My brother went to the Marines, got deployed twice stayed strong, survived. But not everyone gets that chance. So I can't possibly imagine the hurt veterans go through after losing their allies. I'm just thankful for all they do to keep order.
I would love to have the Staggs socks, because they look like the flag, and i'm very patriotic and I love this country and displaying our flag at my home
