About a year ago, I came across an online store called Covered Perfectly that intrigued me a lot - its main offering was women's tops that were designed with women over 40 in mind. It included actual plus sized and older models, the tops were designed well to flatter real women, attractive and stylish without being overly immodest, include bright pops of color that make them a fantastic addition to any wardrobe, are made in the US, and the store even does free shipping to customers in the US!
I tucked away the link in my bookmarks to use later and then... one computer meltdown later that killed off my precious bookmarks, I forgot all about them. So, I was very excited when I was given the opportunity to review one of their tops! Nabbing this review from our other reviewers may have involved some begging, pleading, and perhaps a little blackmail, but I think I can be forgiven.
Simple V in Violet from their MicroModal Collection
According to their website MicroModal fabric is ".. made of European beechwood, is completely natural and produced in Austria. This natural composition makes it a breathable fabric, suitable for wearing close to the skin."
The color of this shirt is a deep rich purple (my very favorite color), and it truly is very lightweight, a little stretchy, and extremely soft. The care instructions recommend either hanging or laying it out to dry after washing, and I have found it dries quickly and holds its shape and size fine.
There's a lot I love about this top - the color, of course, but also the thin breathable fabric makes it just right for this transitional time of year. It isn't suffocating on a warm day, but can be easily worn under a sweater without being bulky as the temperatures start to turn.
The 3/4 sleeves solve a frequent problem I have with long sleeves (they tend to be slightly too short), and offer a bit more warmth and coverage than above the elbow sleeves. The V-neck is comfortable and attractive without the hazards of too much cleavage (I dislike having to 'check myself' often when my clothing want to drift).
Due to the thin fabric and slight clinginess, it does become pretty important to get a good fitting bra without anything likely to poke through (next on my list - a new bra, check!), and you also want to be sure your pants or skirt also are fitting well, because any untoward lumps will show through.
I don't take that as much of a deficit though - just an opportunity to get the rest of my wardrobe (and body) into shape.
In addition to the MicroModal line, there is the Print Collection and a small collection of interesting diagonal striped tops called Lilly of California.
I plan to get a lot of mix and match use out of the Covered Perfectly Simple V top over the next several months, and am eagerly planning a purchase in the near future. Tops go for anywhere from $39.99 to about $59.99 with free shipping in the US, at there is a "Buy 2 Get 1 Free" special on site that make it really easy jazz up your wardrobe without a huge expense. You'll also find a few light print patterned loose jackets and vests that would play well with the tops when you want to dress things up a bit.
You don't have to be over 40 to appreciate Covered Perfectly - if you are looking for comfortable shirts, modesty without losing style, or plus sizes that know large can be beautiful, check them out!
And seriously, Pauline Durbin of Covered Perfectly - thank you SO MUCH for including models that are in the size and age demographic that you're selling. That shouldn't be as radical a thing as it is, but it was such a relief to see, and I will be a loyal customer because it's so clear you 'get' the needs of women like me.
