Minimalism - For a Clearer Mind, Stronger Body, & Greener Space

Do you wish you had more time for meditation, exercise, and cooking? Do you feel like you cannot afford to buy organic or eco friendly products? If you feel like you are constantly making to do lists, cleaning, organizing, and battling finances, then minimalism - the habit of being attached to and owned by fewer things - may be your answer.

Clearer Mind

1. Eliminate the thoughts that are clouding your mind. This includes finances, debt, and to do lists. How much of the day do you spend thinking about everything you have to do and everything you do not have time for? How many of the thoughts racing through your mind are about money? Less stuff = less to keep up with, less expense and more free time.

2. Have more time for mediation and self study. With a minimalist lifestyle you have time to develop a regular meditation practice where you will discover what is next for you on your path.

Stronger Body

3. Eliminate unnecessary products that may not be safe for your skin or environment. Make a list of all the products you have in your home; toothpaste, hair care, baby products, and cleaning. Is it a long list? When we consider how many ingredients are in each product, how much research would be needed to know what each ingredient is and what the risks are?

4. Have more time for regular exercise and cooking. When we do not wake up overwhelmed and stressed from the beginning, we are able to set the day’s attention with movement that rejuvenates, strengthens, and gives us a balanced ground to continue the remainder of the day. We have time for meal prep and enjoying the taste of each bite. Food becomes a sacred period in our day.

Greener Space

5. Eliminate unnecessary things you are buying. Do you often purchase things because they are a good deal? Do you really need them? Or do we purchase things just to have them? You may buy them with the best of intentions, but how often do you actually use them?

6. Have more money for organic food and higher quality products. When you buy less you have more money to buy the things that matter most. Buying organic or eco friendly doesn’t become a question of possibility.

Minimalism is a simpler way of life that gives you the opportunity to spend your time doing what matters most.

  1. I like that with less stuff I have to devote less time to cleaning and organizing. Which I hate and don't do anyways, I just feel guilty about not dusting. Thanks for posting. Hello from Fat Tuesday.

    1. I agree Melissa. I like a clean house but I don't like to be cleaning all the time. We don't have bookshelves or "dust" collectors as my husband calls them. We have one spot I dust. It's our tv stand. There's no DVDs so it's a super quick dust job. I love that the less we have the more time I have.

  3. Great post! I too am on a simple living/minimalist journey. I love that your list wasn't just about decluttering our possession but included other things like stronger bodies & greener spaces. I notice a lot of people on focus on the possession piece and miss the whole picture. Visiting from Homeacre Hop.

  4. If we all went back to what we needed verses what we wanted, we would be richer, wiser and more well off at peace with our surroundings, etc.

  5. I am happier with less stuff. I want to purge our basement because it feels cluttered and it contains lots of things we don't use or need.

    Great thoughts here!

  7. It all boils down to priorities, doesn't it? Taking the time to really consider what is important in one's life is key. I recently wrote an article about simplifying, one of my favorite subjects. We really can eliminate so many negative factors in our lives if we just pay attention.
Hope you are enjoying something wonderful this weekend. Caio!
