Review/Giveaway: Bottombumpers Cloth Diapers

I've been cloth diapering for years now, and am always on the lookout for fun, functional brands. I recently had the opportunity to try Bottombumpers cloth diapers for review.

At first, when I browsed the website, I wasn't particularly thrilled. There are four different styles, which I'll get into further on. From what I can see, each of those are offered in 12 different solid colors and only 3 patterns (I am a fan of interesting patterns).  None of them instantly grabbed my attention, so in my contacts with them, I only told them my daughter's weight and asked them to choose what to send.

Once the review items arrived, I was certainly turned around. They were far from bland!

Most diapers follow a similar design with small differences from brand to brand. Bottombumpers seems to march to a different drum, and I'm totally digging it! It's not as though I've tried every diaper out there, but in my experience, I have yet to come across one that is anything like theirs.

I was sent two different styles, One Size Side Bumper and a Size 2 Front Snap, each with a two part snap in liner.

I followed Bottombumpers' advice and washed them both numerous times before putting them to work.

When the time came to actually put them on my daughter, that's when I really noticed how different they were. I've never come across a diaper that didn't have cased in elastic. Instead, they have what is called 'soft roll elastic'. It causes the entire diaper to scrunch up quite a bit but I have to say that they have the best leak proof hold of ANY of my diapers!

The first one we used was the Size two All in Two. The strong polyresin snaps are in the front like I'm used to, and fit her wonderfully with still a snap or two to grow.

Bottombumpers Size two's say they fit 15lb – 30+lbs.

I think that sounds about right, as my daughter is right in the middle at 23lbs. The print was an incredibly adorable dinosaur print titled “Dino-Mite”.

The diaper shell is an absorbent organic cotton. As mentioned, their liners come as two parts: a fold over extra long liner, made of organic cotton, topped with plush bamboo blend velour along with a shorter snap in doubler made of organic cotton.

This has quickly become one of her favorites due to print.

But, it was the One Size All in One diaper that really sold me to their uniqueness.

Typically with a one size fits all type diaper you see an annoying array of brightly colors snaps covering the outside front of the diaper. This allows for snap raises and lowers to create a custom fit for your child's size. However Bottombumpers has their snap downs on the inside!

I legit used this diapers few weeks thinking that these snaps were just for different placement of the liner before I researched. When I discovered how they're used, I was amazed!

My daughter is large enough that we no longer use snap downs, but I played around with them off the baby and they are incredible. Normally when using snap downs, it can create a strange bunching but these allow for a streamless, clean look no matter what you size the diaper to. I was honestly blown away by this innovative design.

When using either of these diapers, you have to be sure to flip the elastic seam inward to create a leak proof seal and only exposing the waterproof PUL outer.

I do wish their website was better. I don't care for the set up - It seems very industrial and not very welcoming, and there seem to be links that lead to empty pages, such as the link to the FAQ.

I think the website had everything to do with my initial lack of enthusiasm.

I always appreciate a FAQ and background story.

They have a small bit about how it started on the Why Us? page by owner and founder Stacy, and the diapers are made in the US, but my contact was someone else in the company, and I don't feel I have a good understanding of who they are as a small business.  Their twitter link goes to Laura @Bottombumpers.

It's also seems they are known for their custom embroidery on the diapers, but there is no information regarding this service that I can find - again, though, there is a link that leads nowhere.

I saw several examples of custom embroidery on their Facebook page, though, so if this would be of interest, I suggest contacting them to ask about it.

Their non-custom diapers range from about $19.95 to $24.95 on their site, as well as at several online and offline locations.

While that is still well below many other companies, for myself that is more than any other diaper I've purchased (I buy many of mine second hand).

However, I do think it's worth owning a few of Bottombumpers due to their differences, and recommend them!
