Review: Satos Collars

Every dog should have a home. ~My Personal Belief.

Being an animal lover and proud pet parent, the health and well being of animals around the globe is a concern of mine. I had heard of Satos Collars before, and loved their mission.

I learned from the Satos Collars About Page that they were inspired by TOMs shoes' One-For-One model and decided to sell dog leashes and collars using a similar principle.  For every collar or leash sold, they work with a local rescue group, Island Dog, to provide a full set of vaccinations for one of the 200,000 satos, or street dogs, of Puerto Rico, thus giving it one vital step towards adoption and helping curb the spread of disease.

Each collar is 100% made in the USA, using repurposed vintage trim from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. They currently have six different patterns to choose from.

The collars are $30.00, while the leashes are $40.00.  The collars are one inch wide and 15 to 23 inches long, so while they fit quite a range of dogs, they won't fit the exceptionally small or the exceptionally large.  The leashes are also one inch wide, and are 78 inches long.

While talking with the lovely Satos Collars people, I let them know that I have two dogs, a brother and sister named Gregor and Foxy, and they sent me two collar and leash sets.  The pattern they chose, orange and purple windmill, was adorable! They match, but aren't too "matchy-matchy."

The collars and leashes are very sturdy, and the hardware (which I closely inspected immediately, having had collars and leashes break under strain) are very hardy. They even passed the "vet test", where I take Gregor to the vet for his booster shots, and he doesn't want to go. The collars have a plastic buckle and the leashes have a heavy metal clip.

Keeping in mind that I have mastiff/shepherd mixes and like my collars on the looser side, I found the collars only have a couple inches to spare, lengthwise.

When I first gave my sweet dogs their new collars, they pranced around the house for a good hour, proud of their new jewelry. After which, they fell soundly asleep.

I love these collars and leashes, and I love the cause.  I'm definitely recommending them to all my doggy friends!

Now, if you'll excuse me, the pups are excited for their evening constitutional.
