Review/Giveaway: Zsa Zsa Slippers

As much as I enjoy dressing up, between dealing with rheumatoid arthritis and just plain old age, in recent years, most of my clothing choices - especially those intended to be worn at home - are chosen for comfort and not much else.  "Lingerie" has given way to PJs, and slippers are fluffy, scruffy and flat, intended only for a bit of warmth and to prevent me from stepping on a Lego (it has been many years since I had to worry about Legos on my floor, but the feet never forget!).

When I was asked to review a pair of Zsa Zsa Slippers, I was both charmed by their touch of glamour, and very concerned I wouldn't be able to wear them at all without falling down, but I gulped, agreed to do the review, and waited to see what the mail would bring.

Zsa Zsa Slippers come in three color styles, each named for people who inspired the designer, Jeanne Johnson-Bennett.

The silver and black slipper is called the Robin-Disa, named for Good Morning America's Robin Roberts and gospel singer, Mandisa. The blue and gold slipper is the Degene-Rossi, named for Ellen Degeneres and her wife, Portia DeRossi.  And the gold and black is called the Win-Steen, named for Oprah Winfrey and Joel Osteen.

I decided to let Jeanne select which design to send me, because I liked each of them equally.  When my box arrived, inside were a pair of Robin-Disa slippers!

I wear a size 7 1/2, and these only come in whole sizes, so I ordered an 8, and that turned out to be exactly perfect - any smaller and my heel would have been hanging off the back, and any larger and they would not have supported my feet without a lot of shifting.

The sole of these slippers are very sturdy, and yet very comfortable, since they are topped with memory foam.  I felt like my feet were cushioned and supported at the same level as a really good pair of shoes would do. While there is a platform and bit of a heel, it is not too tall, nor is it at an awkward angle - I experienced no unsteadiness while wearing these, and it has been literally years since I've attempted to wear a heel.  These are actually being recommended by foot doctors as a safe and supportive shoe for those of us with foot issues - and they sure don't look orthopedic, do they?

That said, these are far closer to being a shoe than a slipper, and will take some breaking in - over time, the sole will begin to mold itself to your foot, increasing comfort.  In the beginning, I had a bit of difficulty with the top part of the slipper digging into the top of my foot.  This is a frequent issue for me with clog style shoes.  It eased up over time, and a bit of moleskin lining the inside helps prevent any chafing. The designer is working on a resdesign down the road that will address this by using elastic on the top.

I was initially concerned about the glittery black sides - while this is a really eye catching design, were they going to flake off glitter and get it all over my clothing and house? (This is a problem I've had in the past with glittery party wear)  The answer is no!  The fabric is very sparkly, but it is woven, not just glued on top, and none of it shed. Both the sides and top are shimmery enough to pick up a lot of light and reflection.

Zsa Zsa Slippers definitely bring out a spirit of fun - while they make very nice upscale lounging slippers for home, they are also sturdy enough to wear for a festive occasion, and I expect I will do just that when holiday time comes around again!.

In addition to these fun but functional slippers, Zsa Zsa Slipper also offers a line of lingerie and loungewear available for sale online. The designer will be making an appearance on In Style on WeTV in May to discuss the slippers and their usefulness for those of us that have foot issues, but maybe aren't totally ready to give up dressing up now and then.

Zsa Zsa Slippers are available for purchase on their website for $99, and currently you will find a 20% off code to use at checkout.  She's also generously agreed to do a giveaway for one of our readers!

  26. Sadly, as frequently happens to me, manufacturers don't realize that sometimes women have feet larger than size 10. I guess Zsa Zsa would never have need a size 11. They're cute though. Thanks for sharing at the Blogger's Pit Stop.
