Review: Sockwork - Socks With A Purpose

Sometimes I get the pleasure of coming across companies that stand for so much more than the product they provide. Sockwork: Sock With a Purpose has definitely filled that slot for me this past month.

At face value, it’s a company that provides both men and women’s sock subscription boxes. Each box come with your customized choice of two pairs of socks. They carry both Professional and Fun options.

But underneath, this company is totally rocking a philanthropic mission. Each month, 10% of the proceeds from the boxes go to different veteran charity.

I received the June Men’s Box. While there is plenty of men on our review board, apparently they all have gargantuan feet and were unable to properly fit the socks provided. Me and my feet, were perfectly fine taking one for the team!

The men's socks fit a size 6-12, and I’m a women’s 8. (The women's socks come in sizes 5-10.)

Opening the box, I found two neatly folded mid length socks, an introductory card, and a complimentary mint – which my husband was happy to steal right away.

The card informed me that June’s charity was Things We Read, which sounds like a perfect fit for my box. Reading is among my top loves. Things We Read is an organization that provides sought after books to service members. Too often, donated books are the throwaway that no one wants to read. Our heroes deserve better than that!

Back to the socks-- at first, I wasn’t too crazy about the patterns. I have seen much cuter and unique options on their websites. However, I could see them adding some much needed spunk underneath a stiff business suit.

I kept changing my mind on which on I preferred of the two. I think in the end, I just can’t decide! I also can’t quite tell if these are both considered professional, or a mix of Professional and Fun. I’d assume a mix due to the bright colors of the red and blue pair.

Each pair fit and felt the same. They were each very comfortable, thin and breathable. I have thicker calves and, while I would have liked them a touch larger, they were just fine.

In addition to the cut and dry options of men’s or women’s, profession or fun, there are a few other selections to choose from.

You can opt for a single COOLMAX Performance Fabric by Richer Poorer with their Athletic box, or even a His/Hers mix to make the box coming beneficial to you and your significant other all at once. I really love that option!

Aside from socks, Sockwork also offers a box with men’s underwear, or a combo box with both briefs and socks!

The prices of services seem to vary a deal depending on which kind of box, as well as payment duration you are looking for. A single mix bag of two men’s socks as I received would cost a flat $20.

Although it is separate from Sockwork, I’d still like to mention another brand the founders have launched. With the help of a Kickstarter campaign, Purpose Outfitters was born.

Each American-made sock sold is dedicated to a single fallen soldier. Their name is stitched onto the sock, with a bit of back story on the label.

On top of that, proceeds of that sock, are donated on behalf of the hero’s family to local needs, keeping the soldier’s legacy alive. I hope to give a more in depth look into this company in the future.

As an Air Force brat, and an Army wife, the founders of these two companies, Mario and Tina Barrett, are doing amazing, meaningful things and I am extremely honored to highlight them on our blog.
