Review/Giveaway: ReCAP Mason Jar Pour Caps

I am a mason jar type of gal. I use mason jars for everything from dry food storage, water bottles, lunch storage, cocktails, to laundry soap storage. I could not wait to try this lid out. I have had endless amounts of accidental water spills in my bag and was in need of a good travel lid.

As soon as the lids arrived, I knew this was the right lid for my family and I. Each of these awesome qualities of ReCAP are important to me:
  • BPA-free
  • Sustainable
  • Spill-proof
  • Made in the U.S.A.
  • Easy to navigate and recyclable packaging

I checked out the history behind the ReCap on Facebook and found it was created by a mom on a mission.

“Our story began with salad dressing. After creating yet another oily mess with the lid & ring, I searched for a pour cap that would fit my Mason Jars and allow me to shake, pour, and store dressing. Well, there wasn't one, and my first reaction is what I often hear from fans of reCAP, “I can't believe a pour cap didn't exist?” Like any Mom meeting a challenge, when I can't find what I need, I make it.”

As soon as the lid arrived I pulled out a mason jar and put it to use.

ReCAP sells a variety of lid and mason jar combinations. The particular one I reviewed is the pour cap. This cap is designed for shaking, pouring and storing. You can easily pour dry food goods out at a manageable speed as well as a homemade sauce. My favorite use for the cap is an everyday water bottle.

My first test - tipping it over to test the “spill proof” that most products advertise. It really was spill proof! Not one drop leaked out.

I made sure to screw the lid on really tight and was able to fill and refill the jar through the spout.

The first couple uses the spout did not click to give me that auditory check that it was closed. After a few days of use the lid started to make that click which I think most of us are listening for.

My toddler particularly loves his new cup set up. I was able to put a regular pour cap on a regular small mason jar. He’s able to flip it open and shut the cap without a drenching accident as he stays hydrated.

Another great option for the kiddos is to put a straw in the spout for smoothies.

I took our mason jar and pour cap everywhere - morning workouts in the stroller, pool playdates, a road trip to the coast, play time at a park, and to the beach. Not one spill!

You do not want to microwave the cap (I did not try but read it is not designed to be microwaved). For cleaning you can throw it in the dishwasher or hand wash.

I also received a selection multi purpose tags. These tie onto your jar and can be very helpful in remember what all you have stored.

There are a variety of tag options on their website. You can purchase small quantities for around $5, up to a 200 quantity set for $25.

ReCAP lids and accessories are available on their website as well as online venues such as Amazon. They come in a variety of colors in both wide-mouth or regular (which also fits Classico sauce jars).  In addition to flip up lids, they also make pump lids and spray lids.  Shipping is free for orders over $35.

If your pour lid flipper gets lost or damaged, you can order a new one for $1.00. You can also replace the gaskets when needed. A set of 8 is $7.00.

I loved this cap and look forward to expanding our collection of them!  Check out our giveaway below for the chance to win a pair of your own.

  29. An item I'd like from reCAP is the reCAP Mason Jars Adapta Cap PUMP, to make a liquid soap dispenser from a mason jar. If I were your lucky winner of the two caps, I'd use them for storing pourable dry goods, like tapioca pearls or quinoa, or for using mason jars for making and pouring salad dressings.
