DIY Mommy Survival Kit (Great Shower / New Mom Gift!)

Recently I was part of a 'Mom Craft Swap' through a really cool mommy group on Facebook. One of the moms put on the entire swap in a similar fashion to a secret Santa gift exchange.

We had an odd number of girls participating so Jesi, the mom who put on the swap, pulled names out of a hat in order to assign us all a craft mom to put together a creative crafty package for. We were also given a few fun facts about our mom recipient.

My recipient was a new mom named Heather. She was a new mother to a three month old boy. I know that being welcomed into 'mommyhood' can be a bit overwhelming at times, so I thought making Heather a crafty Mommy Survival Kit would be a lot of fun.

I grabbed a few ideas off of Pinterest of course, then made my own spin-off version of a survival kit because I wanted it to be creative and unique. It's always a great idea to add your own special touches to the DIY projects you jump into. Every mother is unique so I wanted to really show that in my package for Heather.

There are a bunch of random things in my Survival Kit that each serve as a purpose in helping us mommies in this crazy journey of parenthood.

This is what I typed on a cute little card within the package:

MOMMY SURVIVAL KIT

A Penny - for your thoughts

A "life" journal (and scented markers) to store your thoughts, post mommy brain...and smell good while doing it!
Marbles - since you will lose some of yours on a weekly, maybe even daily basis

Jewels - Now that you're a mother you're even more valuable!

Rubber Band - remember to be flexible...even when you want to snap

Battery - to keep going, and going, and going...and going

Coffee Mug - If caffeine wasn't your friend before, it is now!
Welcome to the Mom Club.

Matches and candle - to light your flame when you're feeling burnt out.

Fan - to cool us off, when our spouses...or extended family gets us heated

Candy  -to cherish and embrace the sweet moments.

Baby's Print Keepsake - these precious moments fly by so fast, make memories that can last ❤️
Wooden Heart Frame - be creative, get messy, let your heart be your guide, and let your soul be free to explore and create.

Mom bracelet - I wear the same one, and I send one to every new mom friend that touches my heart in some way. It helps remind us that we aren't alone in this absolutely beautiful, messy, and amazing ride through mommyhood.

Since the Moms who participated in the craft swap are all over the country, we were also instructed to post photos on Instagram and facebook with the 'hashtag' #SpringCraftySwap2015 so we could all see the projects we created for each other.

I have also created a Mommy Survival Kit for a soon-to-be mommy and gave it to her as a baby shower gift. She absolutely loved it, especially because it was so unique and different from the usual diaper cake DIY projects. I can't wait to hear how my mom recipient likes her craft package.

  5. The idea sounds very interesting indeed. Some time ago, I made a bag for pampers for a friend of mine. I am not the most skilled person and I am not an expert on the subject either, but it was made from the heart.

  10. Loved reading this list! I agree with the caffeine albeit wasn't until I had 3 that I was officially addicted.... but tomorrow will be 30 days since I've had a Starbucks so I'm hoping that I'm able to keep up on that. The marbles = for reals! There are so many good ones here.
